International BusinessLockbox, cheque negotiation and collection

When your overseas trading partners pay by cheque, we can help you pay them into your account and realise their value quickly.

The majority of international payments are made electronically - making them faster, cheaper and more secure.

Some of your international buyers may pay with overseas cheques and drafts, or currency cheques drawn in the UK, and we can help you pay these in.

If you regularly receive more than four Dollar or Euro cheques a month we suggest you consider our lockbox services. When you are handling just a few cheques a month, we suggest negotiation and collection.

US Dollar Lockbox

  • Our Easy US$ Lockbox services helps you realise the value of overseas cheques more quickly
  • Your customer sends the cheques directly to HSBC in the US rather than to you, and we process them through clearing in the United States
  • You can see cheque details and accompanying correspondence through our online banking service HSBCnet.

European Lockbox

  • With European Lockbox we can handle payments from your European customers and credit money to your account more quickly than paying into a branch
  • Your customers send payment to HSBC in London and we process them through clearing
  • We send you supporting documents that came with the payment and copies of cheques.

Cheque negotiation and collection

When your trading partners sends cheques payable outside the UK or foreign cheques payable in the UK (excluding Euros), we can take care of these for you with cheque collection or negotiation services. You'll need to liaise with an HSBC branch or your Relationship manager to process the cheque.

Cheque negotiation - You can use the funds before the cheque has cleared. If the cheque is returned unpaid we will take the money back.

Cheque collection - We credit your account only when we have received funds or confirmation that the payment has cleared. Collection is often used where the risk of advancing funds from a foreign cheque is considered too high, or when you need to know that the cheque has, or will definitely be paid.
